9 Very Specific Rules From Real Libraries
I worked at a University library where we quietly allowed bathing as folks at the library sort of looked after the nice schizophrenic lady who mostly spent her days on the library steps. She was a sweetheart beset by delusions. She is dead now, and was widely mourned.
I suspect that the Seattle rule is aimed at the homeless. I get that having someone bathing in the rest room is inconvenient, but where are people without a home meant to bath, exactly? I’ve worked public libraries where we were specifically told to not bother them when they were sleeping except at closing time. After all, safe places to sleep are hard to find, especially for the women, and libraries are a safe place, well monitored and quiet. It makes me sad that Seattle takes the opposite tack from Eugene.
